Fears that a piece of unexploded ordnance had been discovered in a house led to a call out to Newchurch for Bomb Disposal experts this morning (Sunday).
It was on Saturday afternoon that Police were made aware of a suspicious find at a property on Milestone Cresent, off High Street, in Newchurch.
Island Echo understands the object – thought at the time to have potential explosive qualities – was found during a house clearance.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended the address and maintained a scene guard overnight, ahead of the arrival of the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Portsmouth this morning.
The bomb disposal experts arrived in the sleepy village shortly after 06:00 and were quickly able to confirm the item was not as suspected and posed no risk.
All services stood down from the incident by 07:30.
