Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest theme park, has announced the launch of its newest attraction, ‘Extinction’.
From Saturday 25th March 25, Blackgang visitors will have the chance to experience the hair-raising pendulum swing that reaches heights of 18 meters, almost double the height of the famous Blackgang Smuggler, and equal to 4 double-decker buses.
An immersive experience that takes visitors to the edge, Extinction is the first-of-its-kind ride in this unparalleled location – set back from a cliff-edge on the Isle of Wight. Extinction is the marker of a new era for Blackgang Chine, the largest of the rides within the park, it’s a thrilling addition to their well-loved program.
The ride throws its passengers, full of anticipation, forward before completing full 360-degree vertical rotations, creating the sensation that you’re about to be catapulted off Blackgang’s cliffs and into the sea. Riders will have the chance to take in the breathtaking views across the Channel, which they can enjoy in the brief moments between screaming. Although that view may be upside down…
Dominic Wray, Park Director of Blackgang Chine, says:
“This is not just any ride – it’s a testament to Blackgang Chine’s ability to innovate and provide visitors with unforgettable experiences.
“Our rich and long heritage is a result of our commitment to pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the curve. This is especially vital in the current climate where we have a cost-of-living crisis in the UK and the travel industry is still in a period of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.”
‘Extinction’ was designed and built by Zamperla; a leading manufacturer of amusement rides based in Italy. Zamperla has a reputation for creating some of the most innovative and exciting rides in the world, and ‘Extinction’ is no exception.

This is just what Blackgang needed. A thrill ride to compliment the existing amusements. I love all of the nostalgic Blackgang kitch but this is perfect for bigger kids, teenagers and adults. I love this type of ride as well, can’t wait to see the views!
Also, please, please, please bring back the Weather Wizard!!!!
Second the Weather Wizard.
The only possible downside I can think of is the screams that will probably be heard park wide.
Can’t wait to have a go!
That’s not a downside, that’s part of an amusement park
Looks to be the perfect angle to launch you into the sea when the bolts rust up. LoL
This is gunna be a shock to a lot of regular blackgang visitors, they have a ride at paultons called cyclonator and that is 1.2m to ride and that is very intense, be very interesting to see how this compares as this goes all the way over, well done to bring a much more intense ride to blackgang!
I hope it doesn’t add to the problem of land movement. The forces this ride generates will be considerable.
