A motorcyclist is being treated for serious injuries after crashing off the road at Quarr this morning (Saturday).
Police and paramedics are currently in attendance where Eleanors Grove meets Quarr Hill on the main road between Binstead and Wootton.
Island Echo understands a motorcycle – a scooter – has left the road on a long right hand corner, coming to rest in amongst the trees down a slight embankment on the outside of the bend.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene with paramedics tending to the injured rider, who is thought to have sustained head injuries. His helmet has been seen at the side of the road some distance away.
Traffic is heavy in the area but the road remains open, under Police direction.
UPDATE @ 10:05 – Police have now closed Quarr Hill in both directions between Fishbourne traffic lights and Binstead Hill.
The closure of the main road between the towns of Ryde and Newport is likely to cause significant delays for motorists, with alternative routes including Havenstreet and The Downs.
Southern Vectis Route 4 and 9 buses are being impacted by this closure.
The road is expected to remain closed for the rest of the morning, with access to the ferry terminal maintained from the Wootton approach.
UPDATE @ 10:20 – It has been confirmed that a 30-year-old male from Newport is being treated for serious injuries following the single-vehicle collision.
4 motorcycle-riding officers from the mainland-based Roads Policing Unit – on the Island for a pre-planned operation – are now attending the scene of the crash.
UPDATE @ 13:07 – Quarr Hill/Eleanors Grove has now re-opened, Police have confirmed.

The first sign of rain on dry roads and people still don’t drive to the conditions. I dare anyone to tell me this incident was anything different.
I blame the naughty tree
Could we f had a heart attack or some medical conditions, this is the problem with this world people assume not knowing jack shit about it
One of the worst vehicles to drive in slippery conditions used to scare the pants off me
I really hope the biker is ok but 7 police officers for a 1 person crash? Seems the only way to get a large police response is to have a crash carry a gun or knife or be drunk in the street any other crime sorry we can’t help.
You have obviously never dealt with a serious collision, which this is, have you.
The police seem to be completely incompetent here. There seems no reason why they should shut the road from Ryde to Wootton. They are letting cars get all the way to Fishbourne from Wooton and then telling them to turn round and go back through Fire stone copse. Why not have an officer at Firestone directing them to the ferry or through the copse?
Instead they are directing them along Newnams Rd at Binsted and its been absolute chaos through Firestone copse! Idiots
Idiot. Serious accident. Has someones life been an inconvenience for You.
Lee – why do you asssume that all traffic is going to Ryde? How many houses are there between Fishbourne and Wooton? Duh!
Pray that the biker is going to fully recover xx
It sounds like his helmet wasn’t put on properly. Generally, helmets are never removed from motorcyclists at the scene of an accident.
