Vectis RFC’s youth section enjoyed a standout weekend with a dramatic U12s comeback, a thrilling U15s draw, continued growth in the younger age groups and a call-up to the Hampshire U18s squad.
U12s SHOW CHARACTER IN DRAMATIC COMEBACK
Vectis U12s hosted New Milton RFC at Wootton Recreation Ground, using the friendly fixture to integrate new players and trial new positional combinations.
New Milton opened with strong structure, crossing for 6 tries before the break. But after regrouping, Vectis delivered a transformed second-half display built on increased breakdown pressure, powerful carries and far better support play. 5 well-worked tries followed, while the visitors were held to just one reply – a testament to Vectis’ resilience and teamwork.
Man of the Match went to Juke, whose impact from the bench immediately lifted the squad through energetic carries, decisive tackles and relentless work rate.
U15s FIGHT HARD FOR 24–24 DRAW
The U15s travelled to Petersfield RFC for a competitive, end-to-end contest that finished in an entertaining 24–24 draw. Both sides exchanged scores throughout, with Vectis showing composure and determination to secure a share of the points.
U16s LEFT FRUSTRATED AFTER LATE POSTPONEMENT
Vectis U16s were disappointed after their away fixture at Trojans RFC was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The squad now turn their attention to their next scheduled match.
U10s GROW IN CONFIDENCE DURING HAVANT TRIP
The U10s were up early for their ferry crossing to Havant RFC, taking part in a joint training session and round-robin fixtures. The developing squad impressed with their effort and gameplay, gaining valuable experience and continuing to grow each week.
They now look ahead to next weekend’s Pulborough Rugby Festival, with focused training planned on Wednesday evening to sharpen their drills.
