Sandown Carnival Association has confirmed that it’s annual free fireworks display in the town on New Year’s Day (Saturday) will be going ahead.
With news that Boris Johnson won’t be imposing any new COVID restrictions in 2021, the celebrations will begin on the Esplanade at 18:00 this Saturday (1st January).
It will be the carnival association’s first organised display for 2 years and will start with a rainbow-style sequence to honour key workers for all their efforts since the pandemic began.
Paul Coueslant, Chair of Sandown Carnival Committee, said:
“We’re delighted to offer the town something to enjoy after such difficult times and we thank Sandown Town Council and Sandown Pier for supporting the occasion.
“Although there’s currently no specific government advice for outdoor events in England, we do encourage people to take sensible precautionary measures including keeping a safe distance from others and to stay away if they have Covid symptoms”.
