When you promote a blog, it is best to do everything you can to get it noticed. Share it, advertise it, tweet it, comment in posts about it, and get on all the popular social media sites you can. Still, social media should not become the be-all and end-all of your blog networking.

So often bloggers are told the only way to successfully market their blog is by hitting the social media trail and hitting it hard. Apparently, networking on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is the only way to get your blog “out there”. However, the hard truth is we can’t count on social media as a major distribution channel for a blog.

For example, if you run a blog discussing promotions available for heart bingo online, social media is a fantastic tool to get your blog recognized. It is not your only tool, though! Not all your potential audience is on social media and effective services like Facebook depend on your hard work.

Social media is very important, but there’s more you can do to promote your blog. For instance, you should also explore other avenues to ensure your blog reaches the most people possible.

Get the Content

Content remains the king of the blog world. What you write on your blog will ultimately determine what traffic you receive. If your content sucks, you won’t get many visitors. It’s that simple!

That’s because Google’s search algorithm understands the difference between poorly written work and content with excellent grammar and a unique voice. Don’t focus on your content ranking, but focus on your content being fun and valuable to your audience.

Be Authoritative

Whatever your blog, the core goal is for you to show that you know what you’re talking about. It’s no good writing a blog on interior design if you don’t know the difference between a couch and a table!

More important, how well you know your chosen theme can affect search rankings. Various studies have shown Google prefers interesting content that is thorough and credible. This includes words you use relevant to the topic, and also what websites you link to.

Work on the Longtail

After social media, the second most important technique for driving blog traffic is the longtail keyword.

If you are not familiar with the term, longtail keywords are search queries composed of several words instead of a phrase. This type of keyword directs targeted traffic and removes passive users from searches.

Acquire Referral Traffic

No blog is an island! Any successful blog should be willing to connect to other niche websites. Referral traffic is from visitors who come to your blog from other websites. For example, another Web site would have a link to one of your articles in their own content. A user can click on this link and voila, you have referral traffic.

It should be noted that social media posts are the absolute best source of referral traffic, but other sites are also valuable sources.

As you can see, marketing your blog is more than just relying on social media. There are many things you can do to gain traffic without touching a social media site. However, it is important to reiterate that the best strategy is to use the techniques above and have a social media presence.
