Bembridge now lead Isle of Wight Division 1 by a point after comfortably beating Hampshire trophy winners Brading Town 3-0 at Steyne Park on Saturday (12th September).
IW Division 1: Bembridge 3-0 Brading Town
Goals from Ant Kettell and Michael Brown saw Bembridge leading 2-0 at half time. A second half strike from Macauley Watterson then killed the game as a contest.
After the match, Bembridge manager, Justin Malin, said:
“Were really happy to get the 3 points today with a solid performance. As a whole club. we have put a lot of work in, and it’s nice to see the benefit. All 3 of our sides have started well, and the future looks bright at Bembridge.”
For the Romans, manager Steve Lawton said (via facebook):
“It was a disappointing afternoon. You can’t give away goals like we did today and miss chance after chance and expect to get a result.”
IW Division 1: Whitecroft & Barton 7-0 Ryde Saints
Champions Whitecroft & Barton have maintained their 100% record and moved into 2nd place by trouncing Ryde Saints 7-0 at fortress Sandy Lane. The W&B scorers were Oli Wilson (2), Matt Evans (2), Alex Wright (2) and Josh Appell.
W&B manager, Gareth True, said after the game:
“This was a great day for the club with both teams winning. We were 5-0 up at half time, playing the best football we’ve played all season and scoring some great team goals. We again dominated the 2nd half and deserved to score two more goals.

“Andy Brown’s young Saints side never gave up, and it’s good to see such a young side playing in our league. I would also like to mention John Hopkinson, who refereed 2 games in a row extremely well.”
In other Island Division 1 games, Shanklin have dropped to third after drawing away to Binstead. Jake Wright was on target for Shanklin, and Henry West scored for Binstead.
Sandown & Lake have moved off the bottom of the table by winning their first game of the season 2-1 against Northwood St Johns courtesy of a brace from Sonny Mulholland.
Vectis beat Cowes Sports Reserves 4-1 at Cowes Enterprise College with goals from Mash Wherry (2), Rory Day and Jake Symes.
Newly promoted Niton continues to improve, holding West Wight to a 3-3 draw at Camp Road.
In Division 2, East Cowes Sports have maintained their lead at the top-of-the-table by beating Ventnor 0-5 at Watcombe Bottom. ECS now has 18 points from 7 games.
Pan Sports occupy 2nd spot, with 16 points from 7 games, after trouncing bottom club Wroxall 10-0 at Downside.
Yarmouth & Calbourne have moved up to 3rd place Division 2 table with 15 points from 7 games after a remarkable 1-10 victory against Newport Reserves at Northwood Rec. The scorers for Yarmouth were: Louie Thomas (hat trick), Conor Pattrick (2), Alex Boirand (2), George Saunders, Ben Mercer and Zak Harris.
The most remarkable performance in the Combination leagues was Vectis Reserves’ 1-12 victory away to Ryde Saints ‘A’. Darren Wood (hat trick), Ben Gardner (2), Josh Tillbrook (2), Jack Lax (2), Lewis Stanford and Joe Houghton were all on target for Vectis with Saints also conceding an own goal.
