coastguardrescuebluelightstockA female has been airlifted to hospital this evening (Sunday) after falling from a banana boat in the Solent having suffered a suspected medical episode.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to Woodside Bay near Wootton after a female washed ashore having fallen from a banana inflatable. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the patient was in a difficult and remote location resulting in Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Ryde Initial Response Team and Newport Initial Response Team being called to the scene.

coastguard104helicopterlandingHaving taken in some sea water and suffered a seizure, the girl’s condition deteriorated resulting in the immediate tasking of Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from nearby Lee-on-Solent. Within minutes the helicopter was on scene and has successfully airlifted the patient to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, the second Coastguard rescue today.
