A piece of bamboo sparked a Police search on the outskirts of Newport last Thursday after it was feared the item on the banks of the River Medina was a human bone.
An area close to Vestas’ Research & Development facility at Stag Lane was cordoned off while investigations took place by officers from Hampshire Constabulary, an area previously searched by Police divers in the search for missing Damien Nettles (pictured).
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said in a statement:
“Police attended the scene where it was established promptly that the object reported was a piece of bamboo.
“No criminal offences or suspicious circumstances were identified. No further police action was taken.
“The family of Damien Nettles has been informed.”
