Finlay Bakewell and Reece Judge have been handed lengthy prison sentences following a violent assault at Newport Bus Station on Christmas Eve 2023.
Bakewell, 25, of Cranleigh Gardens in Cowes, and Judge, 23, and formerly of Collards Close in Freshwater, were sentenced at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Thursday (22nd May) for charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the bus station off South Street at around 22:00 on 24th December 2023. Police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a group of men.
The incident saw 2 individuals in their 20s taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment for head and facial injuries. The charges jointly brought against Bakewell and Judge related to the assault of 1 of those individuals.
At last week’s sentencing hearing, Bakewell was also sentenced for 2 further offences committed in August and October last year.
It was on 12th August that Bakewell was caught with a 6 to 8-inch carving knife on Albert Street in Ventnor.
Then, just weeks later on 30th October, 2 knives were found in the footwell of Bakewell’s car during an Armed Police incident on Kent Avenue, East Cowes.
He was also charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Both Bakewell and Judge have previous involvement with the criminal justice system.
His Honour Judge Richard Parkes KC sentenced Bakewell to 35 months in prison and disqualified him from driving for 12 months. Judge received a 24-month custodial sentence.
Good riddance, longer sentences would have been
better.

Before we start applauding that for once judges grew a pair to inprison these idiots lets remember the party of law and order, our wondrous government who will have them out on day release before they have got their sky box working in their cells.
