Reports of a man breaking into a van in broad daylight have led to an arrest in Ventnor this lunchtime (Sunday).
Police were deployed to the seaside town at just before 11:00 this morning when force control received a report that a vehicle was being broken into on the High Street.
Multiple units have been seen in the town, near to Tesco Express.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 54-year-old man from Ventnor has been arrested on suspicion of theft.
He has been taken into custody for questioning.
UPDATE ON 4TH SEPTEMBER – Police have confirmed that the man has been released with no further action to be taken.

I am so glad I sold my van many years ago,
nowdays they are sitting ducks.
With so little money about, people will try and
steal anything.
We need more CCTV on the island.
Vans should park in compounds with CCTV and security.
IW Council could open up such places for vans to park
and charge reasonable parking fees.
Has anyone stopped to think it may have been his OWN van, that he lost the keys to, and would plod have been there if it was anyone else trying to break into it! Of course not
