A crash on the main road in and out of East Cowes is leading to significant traffic delays during this evening’s rush hour.
Emergency services are on scene at Whippingham Road near to the junction with Folly Lane having been called at around 17:30.
3 vehicles have been involved including a red Jaguar and a VW Polo.
1 male has been arrested at the scene and a young child has been taken into Police care.
Island Echo has been told that one of the drivers fled the scene.
The road has been closed between Racecourse Roundabout and Alverstone Road.
Southern Vectis has confirmed that all Route 4 and 5 buses are not currently serving East Cowes.
UPDATE @ 19:29 – The road has now re-opened in both directions, Police have confirmed.

And here we go again! A driver does a runner! and so it goes on and on. The emergency services mopping up yet again. People risking their lives or inconvenienced thanks to somebody who fears for his/her own circumstances whilst not giving consideration to innocents trying to go about their daily lives.
Kev where is bev
So one person arrested AND another person has fled the scene?
Is there anyone on the Island driving with a MOT, insurance, a valid license, with reasonable vision AND who’s not under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs?
What is wrong with people?!
As ever the vast majority adhere to the rules, its the growing minority who are dragging this country and this Island further down by the day, on this Island we are being made to look like a bunch of law braking morons drugged up to the eyeballs, sadly this is the case for a growing minority just like the rest of the UK.
As an Island it is very easy to believe whilst living here we are unique and not part of the rest of the Country, we are part of the UK having the same issues just like any other County not surrounded by water. We are governed by the same laws and the same government which is FAILING to look after the vast majority along with the IOW council at a local level which is also
NOT fit for purpose.
Why should the government look after the vast majority? This is not Russia. People should look after themselves
Correct people should look after themselves, however it is the overall responsibility of the government to protect its people, that includes the richest and the least well off, also to take the correct steps to ensure those who break the rules in a democracy are dealt with appropriately.
Kev where is Bev
It’s their kids and their other innocent victims I feel sorry for.

He put his child at risk by either drink or drug driving and should be charged with endangering the child’s life. Too many like him on our roads now..
Well said. Disgusting parenting.
I hope the young child is being looked after and her parents being looked into.
You mean parent looked into. How do you know the other parent isn’t a good one…so judgey!
