UPDATED: Police have this evening (Monday) attended an incident in Brading which resulted in a property becoming surrounded by armed officers.
Residents were told to remain inside their homes after reports were received by Hampshire Constabulary of a man with a gun in the High Street, who then proceeded inside a top floor flat at Lower Furlongs in the quiet historic town.
Multiple Police units were sent to the scene with many more on standby in a local pub car park, with authorised firearms officers ready to engage with the suspect. Thankfully, no persons have been injured in the incident.
It is unclear at present as to whether or not a fake firearm was discovered, however according to witnesses at the scene the property owner possesses a ‘fake gun’.
Island Echo understands the same person was involved in an incident with a samurai sword several years ago.
One male has been arrested and taken into custody tonight.
Local residents have told Island Echo of their shock at the very surreal events unfolding in front of them and their families.
Police left the scene shortly before 19:00.
UPDATE TUESDAY: A 49-year-old man has been bailed until Thursday in relation to yesterday’s incident.
It has been confirmed he was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.
