UPDATED: Armed Police have detained two men at gunpoint following a ‘hard stop’ in the middle of Ryde this afternoon (Wednesday).
Two Armed Response Vehicles and a third Police vehicle followed a BMW 3-series convertible through Ryde Town before performing a tactical move known as a hard stop on Victoia Street near to Garfield Road at 14:10.
Officers jumped out of their vehicles with weapons drawn, shouting instructions at the two male occupants of the dark blue car, believed to be in their early 20s.
Island Echo understands the authorized firearm officers are from the mainland.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – The two males have been arrested and taken to Newport Police Station for questioning on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm, believed to be a BB gun.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the vehicle was stopped following information received by a member of the public.
