A planning application has been submitted to build an additional 7 homes as part of a housing development in the village of Rookley.
Planning was granted back in May 2017 for 21 dwellings on land off Blackwater Hollow, close to the junction with Highwood Lane and beside the Post Office.
Now, Captiva Homes have submitted another application to extend that number to 28 and create larger houses than previously planned.
It is proposed that there will be 4x 1-bed, 4x 2-bed, 17x 3-bed and 3x 4-bed homes, of which 35% will be affordable. This new mix has been identified as meeting the local market needs and will deliver housing suitable for a very wide ranging audience.
Permission is sought from the Isle of Wight Council for not only the 28 properties, but the demolition of an industrial building, associated highway access and supporting infrastructure, public open space and an attenuation pond.
Locals have until 12th February to comment on the plans. A decision is expected to be reached by mid-April.

The IOWC should be stipulating that any new development built on the Island can only be sold to Island residents with 10 years proof of residence. This is done in other parts of the country to stop the influx of people from outside the area and of course doing this for existing property sales would again stop the influx of people and the 2nd home brigade.
Cracking idea, that would look after the island, and islanders.
No way in hell the council would do that.
They won’t, as they receive payment from mainland authorities to ‘take on’ excess tenants, and of course the type they are only too happy to be rid of.
Too many Islanders still trust the council is ‘giving permission’ for this massive building for to then provide homes for Island people.
Whilst some of the housing will be, much is granted to mainland overspill, as our council are paid by theirs, so it is more profitable for them to do so, rather than house Island people.
The dire consequence of this policy is this brings even MORE people here, chasing few jobs, and as many will be young couples and families then this adds a massive strain on the jobs market, keeping wages low, preventing people being able to save to buy their own homes.
It also means longer waiting for doctors, hospital, dentists etc. It means thousands more cars, more congestion, less parking, crowded beaches and the few opens spaces left for Islander to enjoy.
It creates more overcrowding, more anit social behaviour, and more crime.
Their greedy policy will ruin this Island, not for a while, but for the rest of time, as those we now only usually witness causing the vilest crimes on the mainland become part of our life and with no extra police living standards when the ‘whole’ is taken, will drop dramatically for Island people.
Yet the council will have more income, legally from more council tax on the properties built, and from other authorities to take on their tenants, and of course a nice collection of ‘thank you’ cards from very, very grateful developers and land owners.
HENCE you see small developments turned down, whereas large ones given the go-ahead.
Watch and see.
Ask our MP if in doubt
Ensure YOU and all you know vote these greedy, destructive vile beings out next chance given.
If they did that then less brown envelopes will be handed to them
where are they all going to work don’t need or want more houses on the island
Not only that what about dentist and doctors ,they can not cope now, can not get an appointment from one week to another, and the mess it will cause trying to get through to Godshill will be well very trying ,
If only the council could guarantee the houses would be for islanders and not outsiders and not go back on their word , hahaha may be we could all put up with it
Exactly the island is also struggling with our 1 Hospital and Dentists Doctors surgeries.
Tough enough to get work for those that want to stay on the island without burdening it anymore.
It will blend into one big concrete jungle ,oh and don’t forget the extra traffic on our roads!!!!
Please Sir, may I have some more? Again.
This council will close the motox but i bet they will grant permission for this. Waste of space council
No, No, No
How long does it take for approval???
Ooh my comment only took 7 hrs @

………….
Pack of lies – it is so captiva can have loads of leeches move in from other parts of the country after they have satiated their need to wreck the environment.
The Pinks are well ‘in’ with the council.
