Permission has been granted for anti-climbing spikes to be installed on a bank in the heart of Newport. HSBC, on the corner of St James Street and Pyle Street in the Island’s county town, wants to stop people climbing on its roof. Now it can install rotating metal security spikes, which would be powder-coated black, on the edge of the wall which connects it with CEX. Currently, there is a parapet wall between the 2 flat roof levels which people have used to climb up from 1 store to the other. The spikes will be installed to prevent access to the roof for both safety and security reasons. The Isle of Wight Council gave permission for the spikes to be installed last week and set a 3-year timeframe. The authority said the spikes will be barely visible from street level.

I remember walls in the 60’s with broken glass cemented in them.
Car steering wheels should have it too, it will make drivers pay attention and not feel invincible
Convicted drivers should have to have their seat belts removed and air bags disabled, then, and only then might they ‘think’ about driving more carefully as for once, they, not some innocent victim might just come out of it worse, and, like nature, natural selection would step in, by maiming or killing off idiot drivers making less on our roads.
As for the spikes, I think they should put the spikes ten feet below the roof, and instead put Banana skins ON the roof. Then, as these Chavs so enjoy, they can film their ‘mates’ impaled, ‘for a laff, innit’.
Even my infants school had walls like that, glass in the top, wasn’t sure if it was to keep people out or students in,LOL.
Tony, I expect that was when girls were careful about getting pregnant, as then, it did not ‘entitle’ them to the top of the housing list, and ensure them a ‘free’ rent and c.tax home, a very generous amount of universal credit, extra help with heating and food, just for dumping another drain on society, so less ‘feral’ children were born, and there were less anti social incidents, and those which did occur the courts could deal with along with borstal etc.
So called Do-gooders , dim, naive fools have ruined society, not for a while, but until it eventually breaks down completely.
Add the daily flotsam and it is clear to see the next generation being born now will know a very unsafe, crime ridden, and impoverished society.
I did this to my garden walls in the mid 80s to stop theft and got arrested as it was dangerous and classed as a weapon if someone one hurt them self when climbing of it???
the law was just as bad then,
What’s pregnant teenagers got to do with spikes on a wall. They are a good thing for preventing trespassing but the stupid law will side with the trespassers if they hurt themselves on their journey of crime.
