Several Newport residents were gored by an enraged bull – who had escaped on his way to market – on 19th March 1879.
The 1st person to be attacked was a regimental sergeant in Lower St James’ Street, who was thrust against the window of a shop. Fortunately, the soldier was unharmed as the bull’s horns smashed the shop window on either side of his body.
The sergeant – with great presence of mind – played dead, remaining motionless until the animal was driven off.
After his 1st assault, the beast then went for a woman and child in the High Street. It lifted the child onto its horns before tossing the unlucky infant onto its mother, causing them both to fall to the pavement. Fortunately, neither were injured.
After this, the out-of-control animal made its way up West Street, where it encountered an elderly woman holding a box. The woman held the box in front of her, which the infuriated bull gored, knocking the woman over.
Finally, the angry bovine attacked a boy, who fell and broke his kneecap while attempting to escape the dangerous animal.
The bull’s exploits in Newport were regarded as being sufficiently newsworthy for the incidents to have been reported in the Hampshire Telegraph.

Really interesting tale. Can’t help feeling pity for the animal trying in vain to increase it’s life
Now in modern times all we will have to recount, if not Nuked to ash, is that our trusted Government are going to send a test ‘alarm’ to every mobile phone in case of ‘future forest fires or floods’
How THICK do these people think we really are?
Clearly it is all in case of a Nuclear bomb detonation in the UK from Russia, and the Government will want as many to take cover and survive long enough to tend the scorched Earth to grow food, so when the ‘better people’ emerge from their bunkers when the tinned food store is exhausted, then can feast on the crops the Cancer ridden plebs have grown.
See what is really happening here.
Re the government text alert/alarm.
Yes of course it is really for a nuke attack warning, so cuddle your loved ones now, for soon all could be a lot crispier.
Worrying times, and made worse by the government not telling us the truth either.
Hope your tinfoil hat is on straight
Yes I can see what is really happening here, you have stopped taking your medication again, you were warned about that.
How did you get all of this bullsh*t from the written text? I’d like to be a fly on the wall at your next dinner party…
Cosmic – bull escapes and causes no real problem years ago – hold the press
Wait for the next enthralling instalment – Dog Bites Postman in 1923 – can’t wait (not)
Can we get iodine tablets on NHS if not why not there getting us into this dangerous situation 10 years ago they had a chance to stabilise the Ukrainian situation but chose with US backing to push NATO boundaries i think at that time Russia had no objection to Ukraine joining the EU but not NATO
