An ambulance has this evening collided with another vehicle before mounting the kerb, crashing through a small hedge and into the front garden of a property in Shide.
The Mercedes-Benz ambulance belonging to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has smashed into the side of a black Nissan Qashqai before coming to rest in a garden just metres away from the front of a detached bungalow.
It is unclear at this moment in time if the ambulance was responding to a 999 call at the time of the incident, however initial reports and Island Echo’s photographs would incident that this was the case.
The A3020 Blackwater Road remains open, however traffic is expected to be delayed while recovery of the two vehicles takes place.
Officials from the NHS Isle of Wight trust are investigating. Emergency services are on the scene including officers from Shanklin’s Roads Policing Unit.
UPDATE – SATURDAY: It has been confirmed that the ambulance was responding to a 999 call at the time of the collision.
