Alan and Sheila Richard from Freshwater Bay Golf Club took 1st place in the Shanklin and Sandown Mixed Open on Sunday 26th June.
Mainland and Island clubs – together with teams from Shanklin and Sandown – competed in a 4-Ball-Better-Ball Stableford Competition. Alan and Shiela achieved 1st position with with 46 points, winning on countback from Brian Morey and Joyce Jenkins (Redditch and Osborne). Victor and Jean Langley from Osborne came 3rd on 39. The home winners were Club and Ladies’ Captains, Bill Foss and Connie Huntington with 49 points with Daniel and Bea Janes runners up on 45.
On Friday 24th June, 63 ladies took part in Shanklin and Sandown Ladies’ Open. Of the 21 teams competing, 13 had made the early Solent crossing to play in the annual Bowmaker Competition. It was the team of Maggie Pearson, Jan Peters, and Sandy Wiswould from Stoneham Golf Club who took 1st prize with 87 points ahead of Shirley Keane, Barbara O’Boyle, and Judy Gowing from Roehampton coming second with 85 points on countback from a team from Royal Winchester.
