AIR AMBULANCE SCRAMBLED TO SHIDE IN RESPONSE TO LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been scrambled to the outskirts of Newport this lunchtime (Monday) in response to a life-threatening medical emergency. The distinctive yellow and green helicopter circled the skies above Shide before landing in the grounds of St George’s School at around 12:10, having been alerted to the medical emergency shortly before 11:55. Flying medics are now on the ground with blue-light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at an address on Chestnut Close. UPDATE @ 12:43 – The patient has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by the air ambulance crew. The helicopter has now relocated to the helipad at St Mary’s.
