The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the village of Alverstone this afternoon (Thursday) where a man has fallen into the river. It was just before 14:00 that the flying doctors were alerted to the incident on the cycle path between Alverstone and Newchurch, with the yellow and green air ambulance touching down at just gone 14:15. Island Echo is told that a male was found in the water by members of the public, who raised the alarm. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 2 appliances from Newport and Sandown, the rescue tender from Newport and a tactical advisor on scene.
