UPDATED: AIR AMBULANCE LANDS ON RUGBY PITCH TO ASSESS POORLY PATIENT

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in a field off Station Approach in Sandown this evening (Thursday) in response to a medical emergency. Flying medics have rendezvoused  with paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – with the view to transferring the poorly patient to a mainland hospital. The helicopter touched down in rainy conditions on the rugby pitch opposite the local rugby at 19:00, having been alerted to the urgent situation at around 18:40. The extent of the patient’s injuries or medical complaint is unknown. UPDATE @ 19:45 – The patient – understood to be an elderly female – has been flown directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham with what is thought to be a cardiac complaint.
