Flying medics from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have landed in Ryde this morning (Friday) amid an ongoing medical emergency at a sheltered housing complex in the town.
It was just before 07:20 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service responded to reports of a life-threatening medical emergency at The London on Well Street, Ryde, deploying a critical care paramedic and an ambulance crew.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has also responded, with 1 appliance from Ryde Fire Station on scene.
Now, the air ambulance has touched down in the grounds of Ryde School to further assist the emergency crews already tending to the critically ill patient.
The flying doctors and paramedics have been transported the short distance to The London.
UPDATE @ 09:37 – The air ambulance has lifted off from Ryde, flying the patient directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
Teams on the ground have now stood down.
