Islander Adam Hose has been selected for the 13-man England Lions squad to play South Africa’s one day international squad in in a 50 over game in Taunton, Somerset, on Tuesday (12th July).
The 29-year-old former Ventnor batsman will then have a chance to play in a 2nd 50 over game against the touring South Africans at Worcester on Thursday (14th July).
Adam, who was educated at Carisbrooke High School, has been in the form of his life for the Birmingham Bears T20 team, hitting 50 against Lancashire on 3rd July and 110 not out versus Worcestershire on 24th June.
Adam has explained his improvement in form as the product of a renewed focus on his mental wellbeing. He meditates daily, does yoga twice a week and has resolved to approach each day with a smile on his face.
Adam said:
“I don’t just want to be Adam the sportsman, or Adam the cricketer. I want to be a well-rounded person and individual. I’ve focused on mental routines to keep me focused in the middle and have tried to strip everything back to enjoying myself, playing good cricket with my mates. It’s still a journey, but that stuff has been huge for me.”
In other cricket news, the Isle of Wight County team beat the MCC by 8 wickets at Westhill on Monday (4th July) in a game which formed part of the 150th anniversary celebrations for Shanklin cricket club.
The MCC won the toss and chose to bat, finishing on 239 all out from 49.5 overs. Daniel Cox was the pick of the Isle of Wight bowlers with figures of 4-59.
The Isle of Wight took just 41.2 overs to surpass the MCC total for the loss of just 2 wickets, with Martin Blackman top scoring with an unbeaten 91.
Result: Isle of Wight 243/2 MCC 239 all out Isle of Wight won by 8 wickets
