A Newport-based manufacturing firm is facing prosecution over an alleged health and safety incident involving one of its employees.
A J Wells & Sons, based on Bishops Way in Newport, is accused of a single charge of employer fail to discharge general health, safety and welfare duty to employee, contrary to sections of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
A court case was heard in the business’s absence at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Friday).
It is understood that the alleged offence occurred during the movement of metal sheets on 15th August 2023.
No pleas were entered, and the case was adjourned until 25th November.
Since 1972, A. J Wells & Sons have specialised in the manufacture and installation of signage, cladding and vitreous enamel products – including all the signage for London Underground.
Health and Safety is poor on the island, too many
businesses take short cuts, short cuts costs lives.
What was the “incident”? There must be more to this story and it might be more interesting than all the drugs and drink offences in the courts.
Maybe its just a case of an accident in a ”previous decade” but with our snowflake and no win claims of today its an easy buck for clumsy, non thinking and often dim witted employees who can t think for themselves. Wouldn’t want to be an employer these days added to it Labour driving the final nail into the coffin with its costs and new legislations.
