A man who was caught with cannabis after he asked Police officers if he could smoke, has been fined £80.
Andrew Dilk, 70, of South Bank Road in East Cowes, admitted a single count of possession of cannabis when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Friday 29th August).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that Police were called following a concern for welfare call on 29th May.
Whilst in the company of officers, Dilk asked if he could ‘have a smoke’ before pulling out a pre-rolled joint. Officers immediately noticed that the joint contained cannabis and so a search of his person was conducted, in which a small tin of cannabis was found.
Although the case could have been dealt with by ways of an Out of Court Disposal, due to his previous like convictions, Dilk wasn’t eligible.
This latest possession offence is the 4th on Dilk’s record.
Defending Dilk, Oscar Vincent, told the court that his client was a regular user of cannabis who used the class-B drug to treat chronic pain.
Dilk was handed an £80 fine and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge fee.
