38-year-old Michael Leigh Phillips has been given 6 points on his licence and fined £240 for driving without a licence and without insurance, as well as possession of cocaine.
Police were tipped off on 4th June this year about a red Citroen Xsara Picasso that ‘smelt of cannabis’ and was being driven in the East Cowes area.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Mayfield Road in the town and it was soon discovered that the driver, 38-year-old Phillips of Adelaide Grove, was driving with only a provisional licence and without insurance.
A search also discovered that Phillips, who has 2 previous convictions for drugs offences, had a small amount of cocaine on him.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client was cooperative with Police and had worked to rid his heroin addiction, whilst suffering with PTSD.
Magistrates fined Phillips £240 and ordered him to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge. He was given 6 points on his licence for driving without insurance. No action was taken for a breach of a previous conditional discharge.

What do you have to do to get a real sentence…. “No action was taken for a breach of a previous conditional discharge” What was the point of giving him the previous conditions then.. The do gooder liberal magistrate should be sacked, pathetic.
What a great punishment. This dreg should be disqualified at the very least
So, much cheaper than paying for insurance even with the fine.
Total joke, not going to stop driving or selling/buying drugs is it.
Yet another case where the disgusting island magistrates should be removed from office immediately. How are these idiots allowed to remain in office when they are placing the entire public in great danger from these repeat offending morons? It is a disgrace.
Pathetic. This so called deterrent doesn’t scare junkies! Give him six months of conscription; let the real men and women show him some real hard discipline. After six months I bet he’ll come home clean, sober and for once a benefit to society!
You sound like a lovely person, I’m sure you’d keep the same attitude if a member of your family suffered with a drug addiction, once again another person having a opinion on something they know nothing about.
“PTSD”… HA! yeah right i bet hes just another junkie with no life. what a waste of oxygen *tut tut tut*
Translation please
what language exacty? not my fault you cannot read
You are clearly a stuck up piece of work who has never had to struggle in life otherwise you would maybe sympathise with the fact that some people suffer with mental health issues and turn to drugs to cooperate with them.
