56 PLAYERS COMPETE IN SHANKLIN & SANDOWN’S RYDER CUP EVENT

56 players took part in Shanklin & Sandown’s own Ryder Cup Event, with Club Captain Shawn Ford donning the stars and stripes and Club Professional Peter Hammond carrying the baton for Europe.

Teams were drawn and paired by both Shawn and Peter on the 26th September. The first 6 holes played as a better ball, the next 6 as greensomes and the final 6 singles match play. The total holes won were added together for the team score.

In a final twist, the actual Ryder Cup scores known at the time were added to each team’s score, giving the Captain’s team (USA) a convincing win.

Shawn Ford commented after the match that the atmosphere on the course and in the Clubhouse was amazing and this was an event that he hoped would be repeated.
