Former Medina High School student Jon Goldsmith is planning a 50th anniversary celebration of the opening of the school in 1976.
An anniversary celebration evening will take place at GGs Bar and Restaurant on the outskirts of Newport on 11th July. The evening will include music (including a live band), food, reminiscing, and a charity fundraiser.
There has already been lots of interest from all around the world, and the evening is being carefully organised to highlight the school after half-a-century.
Ex-pupils and staff are most welcome to attend from every year group.
Jon says of his time at the High School:
“I was at Medina from 1980-1983 in a class of very clever, talented individuals (myself not included). I loved PE and games with Mark Webber, Jon Penfold and Fred Isaac. James Archer was our Headmaster and was scary. The Year Head was Derek Groves and the Deputy Head was John Barnes.
“I have lots of happy memories of my time there but struggled academically. Memories of the metro, Mr Turton the geography teacher saying ‘precipitation’ a lot and not understanding anything the History teacher Crispin Keith wanted.”
Jon added:
“Numbers are growing, but it would be great to turn ‘interested’ into ‘going’.
“Thank you for all those who have named charities that we could raise money for on the evening.
“If you have any questions or further ideas please message me privately, and if anyone wants to help organise the evening please let me know.”
Anyone interested in attending should contact Jon Goldsmith via Facebook email [email protected] or mobile phone 07876 758790.
