Another 5 people have died at St Mary’s Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, taking the Island’s pandemic total to 151.
To date, 97 Islanders have passed away in hospital – a number that is continuing to grow day by day as the NHS comes under increasing pressure. 41 people have died at St Mary’s this month alone.
Of the 151 Islanders that have died after testing positive for COVID-19 within the previous 28 days, 54 have died outside of the hospital environment.
The Government believe that the country is now past the peak of the latest wave with cases falling day by day, but the impact on hospitalisations is still being seen and is not expected to be truly known for another week.
The COVID-19 vaccination programme has seen millions of people receiving their first dose – a number that is expected to rise to in excess of 5 million later on today. It’s unknown how many people have been vaccinated on the Isle of Wight, although it is estimated to be around 20,000.

Anyone will be fortunate indeed not to catch this now. This new variant seems so easy to transmit, and as for many of us the vaccines is months away, a long worrying Spring to come.
Good luck all.
No one seems to care anymore, they keep reporting false information, Why can they not just tell the truth… How many die JUST from the virus.. with NO underlying problems…?
Standard brain washed sheep thumbing down again here huh! O need whatso everTruth hurts our wooly brigade .shame they don’t stop listening too all the lies on tv and gov bs and just wake up think for themselves .hey ho
Never gona happen
Even the mainstream media don’t care anymore, they all sound like they have had enough and they are the ones trolling the public. No one listens or believes the clear lies anymore. Except island echo readers it seems..
Last year 100,000 people died within 28 days of having a hair cut.
If you haven’t got anything good to say like sorry for the families amdfriends who
have lost a loved one don’t bother you are obviously a very sad lonely person who wants attention i learnt that in dog training any attention is better than none hope this hits the spot !!!!!!
May be you should try and learn English and grammar next?
*maybe. People who live in glasshouses should not throw stones.
It is may be in this context. Learn the difference.
Of course I am sorry for those who have lost a loved one, but the fact is NO ONE has lost a loved one due to this virus.
you tell that to all reatives, doctors and nurses who have had to watch their families and patients drown before their eyes. you really are a waste of space
Perhaps but you would be up in arms if people were dieing as a result of having a haircut and no one was saying anything wouldn’t you. There would be cries of a cover up. Your logic here is as flawed as you intelligence.
I’m not sure if you are really that stupid or you are serious…
Its an analogy to your ultra stupid haircut comment Richard.
It is no more stupid than the minority of idiots who believe the media.
Pot calling the kettle black Richard, you are clearly so obsessed with the inaccuracy of the media you reject everything from all sources other than your own experience, or from equally wrong thinking people who are gullible to conspiracy theories. Are you going to take your vaccine when offered? Probably not given your views. Stop spreading your opinion and insulting others who don’t share your warped world view please.
This is stupid… How many have died just from the virus alone.. ?? 8 maybe.. or 12 ?? Why not say how many have died because they had freckles… , bloody stupid reporting..
Do one! You prat!
The whole point is that with there under lying health conditions-without covid they would still be alive, wether at home and stable, in a care home or at hospital, I didn’t realise idiots still existed, you just won the jackpot for being one
Have we got a vaccination centre on the island yet??
We have 3 altogether, 2 at St Mary’s and one at \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\riverside Centre.
Theres a vaccination centre at Westridge Centre next to Tesco
And Carisbrooke .
There is one in Freshwater
Yes vaccine centres are here, unfortunately people like dave are making false news and creating a huge problem with rolling the vaccine out.
If 1000 jabs available tommorow, comments above about freckles deaths blah blah blah so only 400 might turn up.
I had bcg Jab at school, don’t remember a government conspiracy to brain wash me, chip me, change my dna, but that was all OK back then.
Is there any “waiting list” for the missed appointments for vaccinations ?
My daughter in law works front line phoning up and offering the vaccine out, if people do not turn up they then phone someone else to come in that day so nothing gets wasted.
Why the discrepancy in deaths when the other sites say much less. Scaremongering by any chance?
can anyone tell me why westridge centre was not open today as i had a appointment with some other people for the vaccine jab waited one hour and it was closed
