Up to 60mm of rain is likely to fall in the next 36 hours according to the Met Office, who are saying heavy and sometimes thundery rain will move in from the West later tonight and won’t clear until Wednesday morning. The yellow weather warning for rain is in place from 17:00 today until 09:00 Wednesday.
With the ground already saturated, surface water and flooding is likely across the Island and electrical storms could pose an additional risk.
Towards the end of the week the rain is expected to become persistent and heavy at times with many places seeing up to 30mm of rain during the day, with as much as 70mm over higher ground. A second alert is in place from 21:00 on Thursday until 18:00 on Friday.
