A total of 33 teams – several of whom made the early morning Solent crossing – took part in one of Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club’s biggest annual competitions last weekend (Saturday 17th May).
The event included the much-loved 9th Hole Challenge, run by Club Professional Peter Hammond. In this optional challenge, players deposit between £5 and £100 in the Pro-Shop before attempting to hit the green and make par. If successful, Hammond doubles their deposit. If not, the deposit remains in the player’s Pro-Shop account to use at a later date.
Following the competition, participants enjoyed a 2-course meal prepared by Club Chef Liam Hill.
The winning team, scoring 123, was made up of Kenny Crane, Luke Hatch, Matt Taylor and Dave Wilson – all from Shanklin & Sandown. Each received a Titleist Lightweight Cart Bag.
Runners-up were Stephen King, Chris Lee, Ian Miles and Mike Ward, also from Shanklin & Sandown, who finished just 1 point behind with a score of 122.
