On and off street parking charges across the Isle of Wight will jump by 25p an hour under plans revealed by the Isle of Wight Council.
From April this year, Islanders will face a 25p per hour parking charge increase effecting every parking zone, including short stay and long stay car parks, as well as on-street parking.
Current short stay off street parking charges see rates of £4.10 for 1 to 2 hours, becoming £4.35 in April – if plans are approved by councillors later this year.
The Island-wide increase is expected to bring the local authority an extra £241,000 during the next financial year of 2026/27.
In the coming financial year, the additional on street parking charge is expected to raise an additional £122,000 for the council coffers, whilst off street will generate £119,000.
During the 2023/24 budget, it was unveiled that the Council would freeze parking charges with the Council leader, Phil Jordan, acting to support local businesses and shoppers.
The decision is due to be discussed by the Policy, Finance and Resource committee on 20th February.

I have no words.
Not a problem just park free of charge on
the pavement in the pedestrianised zone
opposite the pier in Sandown outside the
old tourist information centre.
Beautiful, saves thousands of pounds,
beats paying.
Another nail in the coffin of village and town shopping!
Do they really not care if people stop shopping as much and going to the beach it’s expensive enough but 25p extra an hour is taking the p… it could put a lot of pressure on businesses. People are fed up it’s just pay out pay out pay out???
Good old Isle of Wight Council!
Said no one ever.
how to stop visitors in their tracks
O dear my beloved Island is rotting at the core and the councils are killing it day by day! How on earth can you hit people with these parking charges! Can you not see people will not go to your shops and holiday makers will
not come to the island! Work it out its just mind boggling that you are killing the once great island that existed! So its ferry costs and council costs! that are destroying the island!
I have never bought a ticket since I started driving in 1998, I have had two parking tickets in all that time which is cheaper than actually buying the tickets in the first place.
Instead of draining the public’s pocket local councils need to be reformed with all wastages cut.
Should be no parking charge, it was our money that paid for the car parks in the first place
Same can be said about the toilets.
so people will park further away in residential streets and put more pressure on the residents, who will struggle to park near their own homes. don’t see how this is justified, parking is really expensive and just will drive people to shop online or not bother to visit areas if they have to pay even more to park
Islandwide parking permits would put a stop
to that nonsense.
Portsmouth £2-2.20 1hr… £2.50- 3.80 2hr
Southampton £1.001 hr …£2.50 2hr
Winchester £2.00 1 hr …£3.60 2hr
But over here the minimum will be £4.35 as you cannot pay for 1hr it is
1-2 hrs in some car parks . When we are all one council will the prices fall in line with the rest of Hampshire ..I very much doubt it will ..!!
So many places on the mainland charge owners
of Diesel vehicles Double std parking charges or
std charge plus 50%
Too be honest parking charges on the island
are low.
Increase the daily charge up to 6pm and
do away with the nightly charge.
Not by me never use car parks id rather go out of my way than give them any more money..what a dreadful country we live in.Island a joke.
So you park in the supermarket. Buy a £1 sweet or an apple/banana and return before your two hours is up. Need longer? Drive to another supermarket and do the same.
Halfords
Sainsbury’s
Lidl
Morrisons
M&S
All have limited parking, or, park a mile away and walk. You need the exercise anyway

And council tax is going up by ???
5%as usual
So Jordan stated they didn’t put charges up for parking last time, they was going to. They got the begging bowel out asked the Govenment for 3 million quid. They got it, but put charges up for tourist parking permits just in time for the summer season. I knew this was going to happen
I know people who have scrapped plans to holiday here this year. One couple decided to take their family on an all inclusive to the Canaries. The ferry, the parking plus the cost of meals on top made it unviable. The parking fee rise is just flicking two fingers at the public who are sick of being cash cows.
Go to France none of this crap..
