Reports of a woman in the water off Ryde Esplanade prompted a large-scale emergency response this morning (Wednesday), with a helicopter and lifeboat amongst the resources mobilised.
It was just gone 08:35 that Police were alerted to a concern for the welfare of a 20-year-old woman, who had entered the water near to Ryde’s historic pier.
The situation prompted the immediate scrambling of Coastguard Rescue 175 from Lee-on-Solent, as well as Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor.
Ryde Inshore Rescue was tasked to launch its Rescue 2 lifeboat.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary also responded, alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Thankfully, the woman exited the water and was supported by officers.
She was taken into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with all other resources stood down from the incident.
One woman’s stupidity has created a lot of work and, as usual, who gets the bill – the taxpayer. She should be issued with an invoice for the full cost of her rescue.
