20-year-old Kalicia Rutherford has been charged with drink driving after crashing her Skoda into trees near Brading during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Police were called to Rowborough Lane – between the towns of Ryde and Brading – in the early hours, at just before 01:30.
Emergency services arrived on scene to find a green Skoda Fabia buried backwards into the trees, near to the railway bridge.
No other vehicles were involved.
Officers breathalysed the identified driver, who provided a positive roadside sample. They later went on to provide an evidential reading at Newport Police Station, leading to Kalicia Rutherford, of Nettlecombe Lane, being charged with drink driving.
The 20-year-old will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 6th February.

Plonker now very high insurance for years and and a criminal record and points well down…
And they are trying to take MY license because i’m over 70. Bloody piss/snort drivers are the dangerous ones
For what reason is your licence under threat?
Us old ones are the sensible ones.
They need to increase the driving age to at least 25
by then it gives them a chance to grow up and understand
that it is wrong to drink and drive.
I’m afraid the older and younger drivers cause all the problems on the roads. Young drivers think they are invincible and older drivers are indecisive with slow reactions times! Both ends of the age spectrum need better ‘management’.
according to official statistics.
“one in four car drivers killed in 2024 were aged 70 or older” (e.g. 25%)
however, over 70s, made up only 17% of licence holders.
Therefore over 70s are statistically more likely to be involved in a fatal accident, than drivers under 70.
>whataboutism
cope and seethe
So they should i watched an old dodderer trying to park in Morrison’s
for 10 minutes this morning.
Then would you believe another old dodderer drving towards Brading
actually drove up the pavement by mistake. So yes i can quite understand why old people shouldn.t drive.
Not all older drivers are the same, young drivers
are more likely to speed than an elderly driver.
If the island set a blanket speed limit and
installed cameras it will work well for all
motorists.
Driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast. You end up with queues of cars behind you and eventually they will be so desperate to overtake they will take more risks.
The answer is don’t overtake.
Too many numpties overtake when motorists
are driving at the max speed.
What’s the rush.
That’s a generalisation which is up there with the one about women drivers not bring able to park or judge distances, Buttercup. Sorry for letting the facts get in the way of your prejudice, but older drivers are guilty of a fraction of the offences, damage, injury and death wreaked on the roads by young drivers. If you wanted to base the law on the facts, people would have to be 26 before applying for a driving licence. But that would be silly, of course, would it not?
Sadly there have been 2 deaths on island roads in
less than a week, and there are still idiots on the
Island drink driving.
Lifetime bans should be given to anyone drink or drug
driving.
Conviction carries mandatory disqualification unless the driver can prove special reasons why they should not be disqualified. Add penalty and insurance effect and this is going to be an impactive episode. But a loss of control that catastrophic could easily have killed someone
There are NO special reasons to drink drive.
Whats all this about banning drivers?
Reading through the various articles, having no insurance and having a present ban in force doesn’t deter people from driving and if they are caught it’s only £5 a week out of their benefits.
Any such person should have their benefits STOPPED
Yes STOPPED!
That will teach them.
