A 21-year-old Cowes man has been banned from driving for 20 months after he crashed into a Range Rover whilst more than twice the drink drive limit.
Daniel Hardy, of Newport Road in Cowes, appeared in court on Friday (31st March) charged with a single count of drink driving, relating to an incident that happened during the early hours of 15th October last year.
He pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to St Mary’s Road in the town at 01:04 to multiple reports of a road traffic collision involving a blue Mazda 2 near the junction with Denmark Road.
Officers arrived on scene to find that the Mazda – driven by Hardy – had collided with an expensive Range Rover which was in a parking space. The impact was at such force the vehicle’s airbags deployed.
The court heard that a roadside breath test was conducted which gave a positive result. Bloods were later taken which returned a reading of 162, the legal limit in blood being 80.
Magistrates handed Hardy a 20-month driving ban, fined him £392 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 with a £157 surcharge.

Another driver from Burley no doubt.
Until the day when drink drivers are locked up
things like this will never stop.
Drink driving kills, no excuses are needed.
Lets hope a couple of years taking the bus he’ll learn his lesson
It’s just a few bad apples. The gov shouldn’t take away our freedom because a few cause issues.
Nice to no it’s name

If the legal limit was zero, any drinker/drug taker deciding to get behind the wheel would know that he/she is instantly breaking the law, knowing if stopped it could mean instant disqualification. Get a taxi, there’s no limit to what you drink and the roads remain a safer place for law abiding drivers.
