An East Cowes woman who denied being racist, despite making extremely offensive remarks to a Police officer, has been handed a 2-year community order.
Jane Hill, 39, of Acorn Gardens in East Cowes, admitted common assault of an emergency worker and failing to answer to bail when she appeared before Magistrates at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court back on 7th February 2023.
At around 23:30 on 24th October last year, Police were called to Hill’s address after reports were made of a domestic incident, prosecutor Ann Smout told the court. Island Echo previously reported on the incident.
Hill – who was noticeably drunk – didn’t want to answer any questions in regard to the incident to which officers were attending her home and became agitated when her partner was detained.
The 39-year-old became increasingly aggressive and began lunging toward the officers trying to speak to her, shouting and swearing at them in the process. Hill attempted to lift her arm above her head as if she was going to hit an officer, but was restrained just in time.
A verbal tirade of abuse continued before Hill called the officer ‘f**king black c**t’.
She was arrested and taken to Newport Police Station where, in interview, she admitted that she had bipolar disorder and was on various prescribed medications that made her feel in her own words, ‘like a zombie’.
The 39-year-old admitted that she had drunk around 4 cans of Thatcher’s and that whilst she didn’t remember what had happened, she did do what the Police had described. She added that she wasn’t a racist and that Police officers shouldn’t be subject to such physical and mental abuse.
Hill has 2 previous convictions and was most recently in court back in 2016.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client had a number of factors impacting her at the time and that since the incident she has been regularly attending Inclusion and that she is making progress.
At this latest hearing – which took place on the afternoon of Friday 14th April – Hill was sentenced to a 2-year community with 30 rehabilitation activity days attached. She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £114 surcharge, £85 costs and £50 compensation.

2 previous convictions? A career criminal if ever there was one!
No just one big waste of space
Wow, she’s a pleasant individual isn’t she, and she’s so thick she can’t see past the colour of a persons skin. What a thoroughly shallow sad individual. Judging by the state of her Facebook profile picture she’s hardly in a position to be critical of anyone’s appearance.
Yes, despite having a mixed race sister, who she also racially abused!
Are you not the same Dave G that 2 months ago on the previous article said it was a pathetic waste of public funds. If the officer wasn’t thick skinned enough to handle this, he should find another job??
That you “Ivy Searle”?
This drain on society needs putting down, gives nothing takes everything.
Not Rascism!. If the gentleman in question is in fact black, then it is a factual statement. Therefore the only bad words are the swear words either side.
It wouldn’t be raSCIST TO LABEL ME AS WHITE, BECAUSE i AM IN FACT, wHITE
Oh, do grow up. This isn’t too hard to understand.
A sentence like “He’s black and about 6′ tall” when describing someone isn’t racist.
Putting “black” in the middle of “f***ing” and “c**t” clearly is to all but the most dense and stupid.
Incorrect! The issue is the fact that Black has been used in a derogatory way. The same way that if someone said these words to you and changed black to white, still racist. Please educate yourself or ask people of ethnic backgrounds what they do and don’t find offensive. This individual is racist, the courts also agree.
nope – the only insult is the word “c^nt” – the word “fu^king” was used for emphasis and the word “black” was descriptive.
hardly racist
You’ve obviously never been racially abused! Again, this person in question is infact a racist. I know first hand
absolutely correct john – and those in the courts aren’t even intelligent enough to see it – or they do and are hand wringing, guilt ridden apologists that are biased against white people
If it’s not racism then a mention of colour isn’t required in the insult. If you think I’m a b**ch call me a b**ch, but don’t call me a black b**ch because you are straying into an unnecessary territory. You are clearly a white person with no concept of what racism is. Racism just shows the lowest form of intelligence when throwing insults, as does your comment John Dough!!
so all those black people around the world who are racist towards white people, publicly on social media aren’t that intelligent then sabrina
Actually an interesting subject for sensible discussion, but only if participants are able to think logically and without knee-jerk emotion and fashionable conceptions. I was called all sorts of things when I ran a pub, including Big Fat Lairy Bastard. I was an am big and fat and sometimes lairy, so how could I object to the objectivity and veracity of those descriptive adjectives? The common epithet of ‘bastard’ is not true in the case of most people it is aimed at. To call someone a Welsh tosser is an accurate description of someone if they are Welsh but not if they are not a tosser. Sadly, racism and any other sort of -ism seems to be purely in the eye of the beholder nowadays
Correct! Racism works both way. As a mixed race person I understand that.
Ur greedy u should one not mixed
