As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called at 18:11 on New Year’s Day to a report that a group of people had entered the convenience store on Newport Road, Upper Ventnor before proceeding to steal tobacco and cigarettes. 4 people were arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody for questioning. Now, 33-year-old Guy Taylor, of Lowtherville Road in Ventnor, has been charged with theft from a shop and taking away a child in care without lawful authority. He has been bailed to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 6th February. 20-year-old Tyler Wilkinson, of Atkinson Drive in Newport, has also been charged with theft from a shop and taking away a child in care without lawful authority. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Magistrates later today (Wednesday). The child abduction charges relate to alleged breaches of a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN). CAWNs are notices issued by the Police that prohibit association with a specified person under the age of 18. A 28-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of robbery has been released with no further action. A 16-year-old boy, also arrested on suspicion of robbery, has been bailed until 1st April whilst enquiries continue.
