2 AIRLIFTED TO SAFETY FROM DEPTHS OF BLACKGANG

UPDATED: A man and a woman have been airlifted to safety by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter tonight (Monday) after getting lost at the bottom of the landslip at Blackgang.

Rescue services were called into action earlier this evening following reports of 2 persons lost in the area of Old Blackgang Road.

Due to the remote location of the duo, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 from Lee-on-Solent has airlifted the man and woman to safety, landing them at Chale Recreation Ground where they have been met by the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.

Amazingly, no one has been injured in the incident but the casualties are said to be cold.

Coastguard Rescue Officers are now being airlifted out of Blackgang themselves as the quickest and safest way of recovery.

UPDATE @ 21:36 – Both the casualties and Coastguard Rescue Officers have now been recovered, bringing the incident to a close.

It is thought the man and woman set off from Blackgang View Point Car Park before getting caught out by the dark. They have now returned to their vehicle.
