61-year-old Michael Smith has been jailed for 18 years for multiple child sex offences against a young boy, including rape, dating back to 2004.
Smith, formerly of Willow Way in Sandown, was found guilty following a trial at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday 1st August of offences against a boy under the age of 13, namely 3 counts of raping a child, 2 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, 3 counts of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual assault on a child by digital penetration.
He was also found guilty of a further 2 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child aged 13-15.
The sexual abuse took place between May 2004 and March 2010, here on the Isle of Wight.
DC Amy Hicks, who investigated the case, said:
“The sentence imposed by the Judge recognises the seriousness of Smith’s offending and I hope that it provides some closure for the victim. This significant sentence ensures that Smith will be in prison for a very long time and will not be able to target other children in the community.
“Our commitment to bringing offenders to justice is underlined when long-running and complex investigations like this result in such a significant sentence and I hope this sends a clear message that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated. I hope this outcome prompts victims of similar offences to contact us when they are ready to, so that we are able to secure justice for them as well”.

Well done to the Isle of Wight Constabulary.
I absolutely agree with you there. I do hope that the young boy is receiving all of the support and care that he needs right now.
He just needs to copy Miah now
I presume this is the same person jailed at least twice before for paedophilia, if so he’s a known abuser of children locally, released from jail, moves back to Sandown again to repeat.
All nonces should be tagged and kept under constant watch to keep kids safe
Your wrong, ALL pervs should get the famous suspended sentence, the one BY THE NECK.
