An 18-year-old man from Newport and an 18-year-old man from Sandown have both been arrested following a crash in Whitwell back in February, in which a 9-year-old boy sustained serious injuries. As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Whitwell Road, near the junction with Week Lane, at 16:42 on the afternoon of 25th February. A silver Mini One and a silver Volkswagen Golf had collided, with 2 male occupants of the Mini fleeing the scene. It was unknown at the time, but can now be revealed, that a 9-year-old boy sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the smash. He was later transferred to a mainland hospital for treatment.
Investigations by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have led to 2 men being arrested and questioned in connection with the incident. An 18-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He has since been released on bail until 23rd June. Another man, an 18-year-old from Sandown, has also been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail until 3rd July.

Name them both! Injured an 9 year old child!
You can’t just go publicly naming anybody that’s ever arrested under suspicion, no matter how much the crime being investigated bothers you, or how assured you are of their guilt. The system is in place for a reason.
The number of people that were arrested, released under investigation, then followed with no further action, could be as high as 30% or more. That’s 1/3 potentially innocent people you want to name and shame for a crime they haven’t been charged with committing.
These 2, if and when charged, will soon be named and you will get your wish. I’m curious though, what would you even do with the information once you have it exactly?
Yawn!………………
Suspected rapists are named and shamed, only to be found not guilty. So you are talking rubbish.
Charged =/= convicted.
It’s not rocket science.
Why are you sticking up for rapists? Hiding something are you? You’re the one talking rubbish you moron!
Absolutely right. We don’t yet have trial by mediaon the statute book. There needs to be due process which may include identifying these individuals at the appropriate time.
Increase the driving age, 18 years of age is too young to drive in
today’s world.
Don’t be daft its just wankers who cause this plenty good desent 18 year olds out there. They will naft all but young boy will carry injuries for life..
Speed cameras are required islandwide.
Only way to stop these stupid B’stards speeding.
you plonker..that not going to work its the scum ferral filth that cause this..
Should be charged with at least attempted manslaughter if not attempted murder,,they seriously hurt a child, NO excuses.!!!
How do you attempt manslaughter?
They will just get a small fine and points..
Stupid person, what a childish comment to make!
Just posted this same comment about a recent crash in Havenstreet…same question applies here.
I haven’t lived on the island for that long, but what has struck me is how many souped up cars there are being driven around, with roaring or back-firing exhausts, presumably driven by youngsters. Why does there seem to be a disproportionate number to the size of the place. Came over from a big town where you get the odd few here and there, but in Sandown they are everywhere.
If eventually charged and then convicted, throw the book at them. Substantial prison sentences and road bans. Also a large and proactive fine.
If this poor child was injured for life where would he/ she stand getting the financial support he /she could of required
then there’s the damage to the victims car .
the book needs throwing at this 18 idiot , he will not change his attitude to society ever, needs banning for life for one and I bet if you looked further into him there’s all sorts or other offences being committed every day .
Scum ,,,,,,,,
More scum bugger all happen to them..
Wot, no comments about oldies’ driving? None of the ageism paranoia?
Hopefully the usual suspects have run over by an untaxed, uninsured, drugged up teen driver or been warned off by the law for perpetrating a hate crime..
There should be mandatory retesting at 70.
And the minimum age to hold a licence should be 25
One of the daftest comments I’ve ever seen
These two low lives will be still living their lives as before ‘once’ the fine is paid off by dealing, benefit money, or more rarely working.
Yet the boy will be suffering from injuries and perhaps mind issues due to this accident for ever, and as he ages, any injuries can add to issues in joints and movement whilst this rubbish will be ‘just fine’.
The males rellies of this lad, must be so tempted to ensure that a fine and a ban, neither which will last, is not the end of the low life’s sentence, and if it were your child, I expect you would feel similar, or perhaps consul yourself that God, or Karma will do the dirty work for you?
They should know right from wrong but at 18 they are still boys and not men. I hope the young 9 year old is recovering well.
