UPDATED: 1700 homes are without power in Blackgang, Chale, Niton, Whitwell and the surrounding areas this evening.
Properties in the rural villages, including in the Gills Cliff Road area of Ventnor, are without electricity supplies following a fault with the network just after 20:30.
A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has told Island Echo that it is hoped customers will be reconnected within the next two hours with engineers working to re-route power.
Engineers are out on the road trying to locate and repair the fault.
UPDATE @ 21:20 – Power has been restored to a number of properties, including Whitwell, after a successful re-routing.
UPDATE @ 22:05 – Power supplies remain unstable this evening, according to reader reports.
