A 16-year-old boy from Ventnor has been arrested, questioned and bailed after a bus driver was assaulted on Monday. Police were called to Newport Bus Station on Orchard Street at just gone 22:00 on 29th January. A man in his 30s suffered minor injuries after allegedly being hit with a bottle as he prepared to drive the Route 5 bus from Newport Bus Station. A passenger who is barred from travelling on Southern Vectis services was trying to board the bus, Island Echo understands. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy from Ventnor was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm. He has since been bailed with conditions until 30th April while enquiries continue.
