13-MONTH SENTENCE FOR MAN WHO THREATENED TO INFECT POLICE WITH HEP B

33-year-old Jamie Lee, who threatened to set his house on fire and infect Police with disease, has been handed a 13-month prison sentence almost 3 years after an armed siege unfolded in Sandown. It was on 21st April 2021 that Police, firefighters and paramedics descended on Avenue Road as a serious incident developed at a residential address. Lee had threatened to set the property on fire if anyone tried to enter, with further threats of infecting anyone who approached with Hepatitis B. He proceeded to throw an object out of the bedroom window which smashed the windscreen of a Police car parked outside, causing £670 of damage. The-then 30-year-old was also seen holding knives. Police had originally responded to Jamie Lee’s address over concerns for his welfare, but he refused to come out and the situation escalated. He was taking drugs around the time of the offence. After numerous hours on scene, Armed Police successfully detained Lee and frog-marched him away from the scene and into custody. It was back in May last year that Jamie Lee admitted his guilt for offences of affray and criminal damage, but the matter was deemed so serious his case was sent up to the Crown Court and listed for September. Sentencing was deferred until December by Recorder Daniel Sawyer to give Lee time to prove himself to avoid an immediate prison sentence, having become clean of drugs during his time on remand. The hearing in December was adjourned until 8th January, and then further adjourned to today’s date, for reasons unknown. Lee, who is no stranger to the courts having racked up around 40 convictions for more than 70 offences, was today (Friday) handed a 13-month prison sentence; 12 months for the offence of affray and 1 month consecutively for failing to surrender. He was sentenced to 1 month in prison for criminal damage, which is to be served concurrently.
