A Newport man who hit a man on the back with a pool cue before head-butting him has been handed a 12-month community order.
Jack Summers, 31, of Priory Road in Newport pleaded guilty to assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday.
Tom Corke, prosecuting, told the court that in the early hours of 10th October 2021 Summers and a group of people were out in Newport.
Whilst playing Pool at a local venue, Summers and another man became violent with one another before Summers picked up a pool cue and struck the other male on the back, leaving a large pool-cue shaped mark.
Summers followed the man into a nearby car park where they came in contact once again. It was here that Summers head-butted the male leaving a large laceration above his forehead. Summers then tried to strike the male with the pool cue again but struck only his arm.
The involved male was taken to hospital where he received stitches for the injuries sustained.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick said that his client had admitted that the use of a head-butt was an overreaction and that the events of that day were very out of character for Summers. He also added that Summers still has contact with the victim but that they were no longer friends.
Magistrates handed Summers a 12-month community order with 180 hours on unpaid work attached. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £500, costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £95.

And the use of a pool cue wasn’t?
I think it’s terrible
I have to agree with you. So do I!
Sounds like he was snookered.
No longer friends? . So at the time friends and ok to hit with qué and headbutt, wouldn’t what him as friend!.
What do you have to do to get a prison sentence?
I’d have him move in with the idiots pretending to be magistrates for a year.
