Elderly residents in care homes and in the community have received cards and gifts this Christmas thanks to the efforts of Carisbrooke College student Macie Edkins-Wherry.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Macie has been busy writing cards and wrapping gifts for those who won’t be seeing family this Christmas, or who are unlikely to receive presents over the festive period.
The local youngster has successfully delivered 106 cards and gifts this week to Pan Together, Care First, Cherrytree Care Home, Inver House, Fairhaven Care Home, Downside Care Home, Cornelia Manor, Merrydale Care Home and St Mary’s Hospital.
Macie used her own paper round money to purchase the gifts, with kind donations from Morrison’s supermarket, family and friends.
Felicia Glover from Merrydale Care Home has said:
“Macie is going above and beyond serving the community with her kind gestures. I know that the residents at Merrydale will be very pleased as some have no immediate family on the Isle of Wight and it’s been a testing time for them during the coronavirus pandemic”.
