Newport secured a hard-fought win against Alresford Town at the Zilch Waste Stadium this afternoon with both sides reduced to 10 men in a fiery contest.
The game started brightly for Newport, who had already set their sights on six points from the week following their midweek success over Fleetlands. They made the perfect start, taking the lead after just 4 minutes when player-manager Joe Butcher lifted a composed chip over the advancing goalkeeper (1-0).
The hosts dominated much of the early play, creating fluid passing moves on a pristine surface under warm autumn sunshine. Despite having the lion’s share of chances, they were unable to extend their lead until just before the break when Michael Thompsett rose highest to head home from close range, to give Newport a deserved 2-0 advantage at the break.

Alresford emerged from the interval with renewed purpose, seeing more of the ball and looking the sharper side in possession. The match took a dramatic turn shortly after when Port’s Harry Taylor was shown a straight red, a decision that left both sets of players and supporters stunned.
With the extra man, Alresford pushed forward, forcing Newport to defend in numbers. Man-of-the-Match Neo Lamb, ably supported by Jez Conway in place of the injured Macauley Waterson, marshalled the back line superbly. Further up the field, Keelan Walsh and Harri Catania covered huge distances to help preserve the lead.
The visitors finally found a breakthrough when Alfie Budd unleashed a spectacular 35-yard strike, beating Leon Pitman in the Newport goal and halving the deficit (2-1).
As the game grew increasingly tense, the referee again reached for his red card. Alresford captain Harvey Tanner was dismissed late on for a reckless challenge on Walsh, levelling the numbers at 10-a-side.
Despite heavy pressure in the closing stages, Newport stood firm, throwing bodies on the line to protect their narrow lead, their resilience ensured claiming a vital three points for the County Town club

EAST COWES VICTORIA GO DOWN TO THIRD STRAIGHT DEFEAT
East Cowes Victoria took the lead early in the second half but could not hold off a determined Millbrook side.
East Cowes Victoria manager Alex Smith was forced into changes due to injuries to Liam Triggs, Raff Boyd-Kerr, and Harrison Yates.
The game began with a highlight for the hosts as goalkeeper Alex Ram was presented with an award for his 150th appearance.
The first half was a tense, scrappy affair, with clear chances at a premium. Jamie White’s header in the 10th minute sailed wide, while Char Hart’s effort two minutes later failed to trouble the Millbrook keeper.
Yakub Ali’s 19th-minute booking reflected the physical edge of the contest, and Caleb Neale’s 21st-minute shot was comfortably saved. Vics’ problems worsened when Elliott Wheeler limped off in the 23rd minute, to be replaced by George Holbrook.
Despite some late half pressure, including a vital clearance from Jamie Wright in the 35th minute, both sides went into the break goalless.

Vics came out flying in the second half. Neale tested the Millbrook keeper immediately, and minutes later, a slick move saw Jake Wright thread a pass to Connor Kelly, whose cutback allowed Josh Neale to fire home from six yards (1-0).
Millbrook hit back instantly, Ben Clarke powering a header from a corner to level the scores. Injuries continued to bite East Cowes when captain Liam Newbold limped off in the 60th minute (1-1).
Millbrook then took control, Callum Drake’s superb half-volley putting them ahead (1-2). Despite several crucial saves from Ram, Jamie White sealed the win in the 90th minute with a precise strike into the bottom corner (1-3).

YACHTSMEN MAULED BY BADGERS IN NEW FOREST
Brockenhurst struck early and left Cowes Sports struggling to respond.
As early as the second minute, the Badgers capitalised on a defensive mix-up, with Connor Dunesby-Bent meeting a through ball and placing it past Ed Hatt (1-0). Cowes tried to respond, but Brockenhurst made it 2-0. A slick move down the left saw a shot hit the bar and bounce to Freddie Beale, who calmly slotted it home.
Beale wasn’t finished before half time. On 21 minutes, a drilled pass from left back to the right wing allowed Beale to drive forward and fire a precise 22-yard strike into the bottom right corner (3-0).
The second half brought further trouble for Cowes. In the 49th minute, a slick combination released Brockenhurst’s Toby Colmer into space at the edge of the semi-circle, and he smashed a first-time shot off the bar and into the net (4-0).
Despite the Yachtsmen’s best efforts, the Badgers controlled the remainder of the game until the final whistle.
