10 DAYS LEFT TO HAVE YOUR SAY ON NEW TRAFFIC RULES IN THE BAY AREA

There are just 10 days left to have your say on whether or not you think double yellow lines should be placed around these Isle of Wight towns and villages. In its latest consultation, the Isle of Wight Council is proposing to introduce new traffic regulations in Alverstone, Arreton, Lake, Newchurch, Sandown and Shanklin. They include new double yellow lines, no waiting zones at particular times and enforcing some of the current parking restrictions to make the roads safer and improve traffic flow. In Alverstone, on the Main Road,  a ‘no waiting’ restriction is proposed on both sides of the road, between the bridges. This will limit parking for those visiting the area. Double yellows could be laid outside the car park entrance and footpath exit on Hale Common, in Arreton, as vehicles had been reported parking in the hatched area and obstructing visibility and traffic flow. 12 new schemes are proposed for Lake including on Churchill Close, Berry Hill, James Avenue, Lamorbey Road, Ranelagh Road and Sandown Road. New passing points could be created on The Fairway and double yellow lines added on the corner of Cross Road and Stag Road. On Newport Road, no waiting restrictions between 08:00-18:00, Monday to Saturday, could be installed opposite the entrance to Alfred Road to increase the safety of the road crossing. Double yellow lines could also be introduced from the roundabout with Aldi, up Newport Road to Manor Road, replacing the current single yellow. 3 proposals have been put forward for Newchurch on Alverstone Road, The Shute and Cupressus Avenue. In Sandown, there are 16 schemes proposed including on Perowne Way, Carter Street, Morton Brook, Queens Road, Avenue Road, Winchester Park Road and Yaverland Road. Double yellow lines could be installed around Tamar Close and on College Close. To prevent parking and improve visibility, the corner of Albert Road and Station Avenue could also get double yellow lines. A total of 18 proposals have been put forward for Shanklin and could see more double yellows put down on Sandown Road, opposite the YMCA house to improve the flow of traffic. The council is also proposing to install double yellow lines around Blythe Way and Silver Trees as it had been reported to them drivers have had to mount the pavement to get past parked cars on both sides of the road. Other schemes are proposed for Carter Avenue, Witbank Gardens, Orchard Road, Rylstone Road, Victoria Avenue, Queens Road, Church Road and Steephill Road. It is also where you can register your comments on what has been proposed. Feedback can be submitted until 29th December. The comments will then be registered and the council’s cabinet will seek to approve some or all of them next year.
