Outrage has been sparked after a life-saving defibrillator was found to be missing from its cabinet at Sandford Garage near Godshill, with IOW Defibrillators condemning the suspected theft as ‘the lowest’.
The defibrillator, which is part of the Isle of Wight’s network of public access life-saving equipment, was discovered missing, with the cabinet door forced open.
The incident has been highlighted by the community group IOW Defibrillators, with spokesperson Steve – a cardiac arrest survivor himself – describing the situation as ‘heartbreaking’.
It is not yet known whether the defibrillator was removed for genuine emergency use or if it has been stolen, but the latter appears to be the case.
The group has issued a plea: if it was used to save a life, they want to be informed so the unit can be replaced quickly. But if it has been taken or vandalised, those responsible are being strongly condemned.
The spokesperson said that if theft was the cause, then ‘you are the lowest’ and expressed a hope that those involved never find themselves or their family in need of one.
Defibrillators are vital in cardiac emergencies, significantly increasing the chances of survival when used quickly. Their removal or damage can place lives at serious risk, especially in rural or hard-to-reach areas.
Anyone with information about the defibrillator’s whereabouts, or the circumstances surrounding its removal, is encouraged to come forward via https://www.facebook.com/steveswr.

That is shocking, the island desperately needs more
CCTV to stop such incidents happening,
who can stoop so low.
This is what happens when the do gooders are allowed to interfere with the punishments of the low life scum. This Island is inundated with the dross of the earth, and what happens they get brand new free for life houses and never questioned benefits while the pensioners and the sick get crapped upon
The problem is many of the Numpty’s have actually
been born and bred on the island, some have as you
say have dross parents who moved to the island a number of
years ago, and that is now the problem.
Is that not a camera on the very top left of the photo?
What’s the betting it’s a dummy.
Well spotted.
I think they have a new one installed now, and it is directly under that camera, if it is a camera.
