An Island man who has ‘lost it all’ after he was found to be drug driving has been banned from the roads for 12 months. Daniel Munt, 32, c/o Broadlands House in Newport, pleaded guilty to drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (19th December). Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on 30th June 2023, whilst acting on information given to them, Police stopped Munt driving a Toyota on Blackwater Hollow. Munt instantly admitted to the officer that he had smoked cannabis earlier in the day before a roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive result. At Newport Police Station, blood tests were taken and later returned a result of 10ug/l – the specified limit is 2.0ug/l. Defending, Jim Osborne told the court that Munt has ‘lost it all’ since this incident, losing his job and his home. He added that Munt was deeply regretful of his actions. Magistrates handed the 32-year-old former marine engineer – who has no previous convictions – a 12-month driving ban. He was also fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge fee.
